Hangar Hopes: Will COMO Laucala Island Meet the Deadline?

Sources indicate that a multi-million-dollar hangar project for COMO Laucala Island may not open within the next two months unless a significant turn of events occurs. Once operational, the hangar is expected to enhance employment opportunities at COMO Laucala Island.

The tourism operator’s Nadi project has faced numerous delays, frequently shifting its “Coming Soon” opening timeline. While the luxury lounge at Nadi International Airport is currently accessible, the completion of the hangar is anticipated to occur by year-end. This facility will facilitate a streamlined transition for guests traveling between Nadi and Kokomo Private Island.

Upon arrival, guests flying internationally will be welcomed at the information desk within the arrivals hall and then taken to the new luxury lounge, which will offer various amenities such as refreshments, entertainment options, a family playroom, and shower facilities for those on long flights. When leaving, guests can also enjoy the lounge amenities while awaiting their onward flights from Fiji.

Delays in the hangar’s opening have been attributed to the use of incorrect concrete in the apron connection, requiring removal and replacement.

In terms of development timeline:
– In 2019, the $45 million luxury lounge and hangar facility for COMO Laucala Island was announced.
– A stop order was issued for construction in 2022 at the Nadi site.
– The stop order was lifted in 2023.

Laucala Island is a high-end destination frequented by affluent visitors, noted by Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who previously cited delays in the hangar’s development as related to investor challenges.

COMO Laucala Island is a private resort in Fiji that features an airstrip for private aircraft and boasts 25 villas designed for luxury experiences. The resort also operates three aircraft that have been in service for several years.
