An investigation has been launched at Labasa Hospital following an incident in which a patient reportedly fell off a gurney last Friday. The event occurred while the patient was being transferred from Zens Clinic to an ambulance outside Extra Supermarket.
CCTV footage that has circulated on social media captures a moment when the front wheels of the gurney suddenly folded, leading to the patient falling headfirst onto the concrete ground. The footage also shows a relative attempting to open the ambulance’s back door while a nurse approached the patient, just as both front wheels collapsed, causing the unfortunate incident.
Currently, the patient is still receiving treatment at Labasa Hospital, and the investigation is in progress. Authorities have reached out to the Health Ministry for further comments regarding this incident and are awaiting a response.
This situation raises concerns about the safety protocols in place during patient transfers, highlighting the need for equipment that is fully operational to prevent such accidents in the future. While the incident is concerning, the continued medical care for the patient signals hope for a recovery. The outcome of the investigation may lead to improved practices that can protect patients in similar situations moving forward.
