Chinese national Yin Qing Qing was sentenced to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to possessing 42.9 grams of methamphetamine. This decision, delivered by Senior Resident Magistrate Sufia Humza, came after she initially considered a 14-month sentence. However, the magistrate opted for a reduction, taking into account the four months Qing had already spent in remand.

While imposing the sentence, Magistrate Humza acknowledged Qing’s early guilty plea, which she interpreted as a sign of remorse and a factor that saved the court time. As it stands, Qing is set to serve the remainder of her sentence in custody unless she files an appeal within the upcoming 28-day window.

This case illustrates the legal system’s approach to drug offenses and the potential for mitigating factors to influence sentencing outcomes.
