Growing Concerns Over Road Safety After Collision on Queen Elizabeth Drive

Four individuals were hospitalized following a car collision on Queen Elizabeth Drive yesterday. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of one vehicle was speeding and overtaking another car, which likely played a significant role in the crash.

Ana Naisoro, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. “The four individuals, consisting of the suspect and the occupants of the other vehicle, remain hospitalized,” Naisoro stated.

Community members have expressed growing concern over road safety in the area, particularly on Queen Elizabeth Drive. One resident highlighted that last November, over 100 local residents signed a petition directed at various authorities, including the Fiji Roads Authority and the Ministry of Public Works, advocating for a series of safety measures such as speed cameras and road humps. “There are just too many accidents along our roads, and residents are tired of these speeding vehicles,” the resident expressed, emphasizing the urgent need for action. Fortunately, the recent incident did not involve pedestrians or cyclists, minimizing potential casualties.

Previous incidents along Queen Elizabeth Drive and surrounding areas have raised awareness about speeding-related accidents, and authorities continue to call for increased vigilance among drivers. This growing community effort toward improved road safety reflects a desire for a safer environment, and the hope remains that authorities will address these concerns promptly to prevent future accidents. By implementing effective safety measures, there is optimism that the frequency of such troubling incidents can be significantly reduced.
