ILISAPECI Naitini, the grieving wife of Epineri Naitini, reflects on the heartbreaking moments leading up to her husband’s tragic death in Sydney, Australia. In a painful revelation, she shared that on early Sunday morning at around 1:30 AM, he had called her multiple times, but she was offline and missed the calls.
“I only wish that I had spoken to him to hear his voice again,” expressed Mrs. Naitini, who is also a mother to two daughters, Lavenia, 6, and Karalaini, 2. The devastating news of her husband’s passing was delivered to her on Sunday evening by her sister-in-law after he was reported to have been stabbed, leaving the family in shock and mourning.
“Our eldest daughter cried herself to sleep Sunday night after learning of her father’s death,” she shared, revealing the family’s struggle to cope with such sudden loss. The last conversation Mrs. Naitini had with her husband was on Christmas Day, when he was with friends, assuring her of his commitment as a devoted husband. “Epi was a devoted husband and father; he never missed a day to call us or missed a week to send us money,” she recalled fondly.
Mrs. Naitini has firmly rejected rumors circulating in the Australian media suggesting her husband was involved in a love triangle, insisting those claims do not align with the man she loved and knew. Mr. Naitini, 30, had moved to Australia on a student visa shortly after their marriage in December 2022, with plans to return to Fiji in 2026. Hailing from Nabudrau, Noco, Rewa, his body is expected to be repatriated to Fiji for burial.
This tragic incident not only highlights the painful loss for the Naitini family but also underlines the severe impacts of violence in communities. The family’s love and memories shared reflect the lasting bonds that endure even in the face of profound grief. In times of sorrow, the support of community and family remains crucial as they navigate their loss and seek solace in each other.
