BA Industries Ltd has formed a new partnership with the Sugar Cane Growers Fund Loyalty Program in Lautoka, marking a significant step in supporting the agricultural sector. This collaboration makes BA Industries the 18th partner of the Growers Fund, with a shared goal of promoting farming, particularly among the youth.
General Manager Sanjay Badgujar emphasized the company’s vision to inspire the younger generation about a future in agriculture. He noted the transformation of the company’s logo from red to green, symbolizing their commitment to sustainable farming and environmental responsibility. “We want to make our country green as much as possible,” he stated, highlighting their diversification into agriculture under the banner of agri-tech.
Raj Sharma, CEO of the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, acknowledging the various dimensions in which BA Industries is looking to contribute to agriculture beyond just sugarcane. Notably, they plan to engage in land acquisition for planting and utilize modern machinery to enhance farming practices.
The loyalty program, launching on December 15, 2024, has already seen impressive early engagement, with 1,500 farmers registering—more than the initial target of 1,200 for the year. The program also provides practical benefits to the farmers, including a generous 5% discount on tractor purchases, which can significantly alleviate financial burdens; for example, buying a $50,000 tractor could net a savings of $2,200.
This partnership aligns well with broader initiatives seen in the sugar industry, as various organizations continue to introduce support mechanisms for farmers. The collective aim is to enhance the livelihoods of sugarcane farmers and ensure a sustainable future for the agricultural sector.
This development shows a hopeful trajectory for Fiji’s agriculture as it adapts to modern challenges while promoting sustainability and the effective engagement of young farmers in the industry.
