A ‘Stop Work Order’ is still in place for the Great Han Residential Development located on Princess Road. This update was confirmed by the Department of Environment. The Department learned on September 5, 2024, that the Suva City Council had lifted the order on the project.
In response to this information, the Department of Environment initiated its investigation and held discussions with relevant parties to verify if the lifting of the order was consistent with the Department’s stance.
The investigation revealed that Great Han had not adhered to the Suva City Council’s decision, which stipulated that work could only continue if the Department of Environment’s requirements were fulfilled, following the initial rejection of the project.
As a result, the Department proceeded with the appropriate procedures and reinstated the stop work order on September 24, under Section 43 of the Environment Management Act 2005.
