A recent inspection carried out by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations has uncovered violations related to minimum employment terms and occupational health and safety at Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu. Minister Agni Deo Singh reported that the findings pointed to breaches of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.

In light of these findings, the Ministry is set to launch further investigations to address the identified issues. Minister Singh emphasized that Fiji’s employment laws are applicable to all workers, regardless of their local or migrant status. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring compliance with the law by all employers.

Singh urged GRC to adhere to legal standards and ensure that all employees receive their fair wages without delay.

This situation represents an opportunity for improvement in workplace conditions and practices, and the proactive involvement of the Ministry underscores the importance of worker rights. As further investigations unfold, there is hope that necessary corrections will be made for the benefit of the workers.
