A recent examination conducted by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations has uncovered violations regarding the minimum employment standards and health and safety regulations at Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu.
Minister Agni Deo Singh pointed out that the inspection report indicated non-compliance with the Employment Relations Act of 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1996. Following these findings, the Ministry plans to initiate further investigations into the concerns raised during the inspections.
Singh emphasized the importance of upholding the law, stating that Fiji’s legal framework is applicable to both local and migrant workers. The Ministry remains dedicated to ensuring that all employers fulfill their obligations under employment law. He urged GRC to abide by legal guidelines and properly compensate their employees for their work.
This situation serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing need for compliance with labor laws, reinforcing the government’s commitment to worker rights and safety across all sectors. By addressing these violations, GRC has the opportunity to enhance its workplace environment and uphold fair treatment for all employees, fostering a more equitable work culture.
In a hopeful note, this incident could lead to positive changes within the company and inspire other organizations to regularly assess their compliance with labor regulations, ensuring a safer and more just working environment for everyone.
