A recent inspection conducted by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has uncovered violations related to the minimum employment terms and conditions as well as occupational health and safety standards at the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu.
Minister Agni Deo Singh pointed out that the inspection report highlighted breaches of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996. In response to these findings, the Ministry is planning further investigations into the matters raised during the inspections.
Minister Singh emphasized the equal application of Fijian law to both local and migrant workers and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all employers follow the employment law provisions. He urged GRC to comply with legal requirements and to ensure that workers receive their rightful pay.
This proactive stance by the Ministry not only aims to uphold labor rights but also signals a commitment to a healthier and safer work environment for all workers in the country. By addressing these issues, there is hope for improvement in workplace conditions, which could ultimately benefit the employees and the business’s productivity and reputation.
