A recent inspection carried out by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations has uncovered violations of minimum employment terms and occupational health and safety standards at the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu. Minister Agni Deo Singh pointed out that the inspection report indicated breaches of both the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.

In response to the findings, the Ministry plans to launch further investigations into the issues identified during these inspections. Minister Singh firmly stated that Fijian law applies equally to both local and migrant workers, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring all employers comply with employment regulations.

He urged GRC to adhere to legal provisions, ensuring that all workers receive the compensation they are entitled to.

This situation highlights the importance of workplace safety and fairness in employee treatment, serving as a reminder that continued oversight and enforcement of labor laws are vital to protect the rights of all workers. The Ministry’s willingness to take further action demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing these critical issues.

In summary, the Ministry’s findings regarding GRC show serious concerns about employee treatment, yet the commitment to rectify these issues through investigations holds promise for future improvement in workplace standards.
