The VESIDA One volleyball team showcased their skills and determination by defeating Easternville in their opening match of the Tribal Risk Nasinu Grassroots Volleyball tournament, culminating in a final set score of 25-20. This victory is a testament to VESIDA’s strong performance throughout the match.
The Nasinu Volleyball Association, in collaboration with the Fiji Sports Council, has initiated a month-long Grassroots Development Program aimed at enhancing community engagement. This program provides local clubs with access to premium facilities and opportunities for high-intensity gameplay, fostering the growth of volleyball in the region.
Watisoni Bukalidi, captain of the Vesida team, emphasized the team’s preparedness and motivation as they strive for success in the tournament. Despite the competitive nature of their opponents, Bukalidi noted their resilience and commitment, stating, “We had been preparing well for this competition. The boys know what is at stake; we are aiming to win this competition.”
Acknowledging the challenges posed by Easternville, who put up a strong effort particularly in the third set, Bukalidi expressed gratitude for the quality of the match. He also highlighted the impact of sports in positively influencing youth amid societal challenges, stating, “We are thankful to Nasinu Volleyball Association for the opportunity to play in this Grassroots competition. We can see a lot of talent here with us.”
The Grassroots Development Program, according to Bukalidi, plays a crucial role in nurturing youth talent and helping redirect their focus toward constructive activities. The tournament not only provides competitive experiences but also cultivates a sense of community and development within the sport.
