The Grasshoppers Premier Netball Team demonstrated exceptional skill at the NewWorld Suva Netball Association 2025 club competition, securing a convincing 21-11 victory against the Huva Stallions on Saturday. This triumph was particularly notable as it came in the absence of several key players, allowing new team members to shine and gain valuable experience.
Coach Unaisi Ranavua was optimistic following the match, crediting the performance of these new players, many of whom were making their debut in competitive netball. “I’m really proud of the girls’ performance; for many of them, this is their first game, and they handled the pressure wonderfully,” she stated.
This decision to showcase the newer players comes after their successful stint in a recent competition in Australia, as Ranavua seeks to build a robust future for the Grasshoppers team by giving young talents the opportunity to compete at a higher level. “These young girls really proved themselves today, and they did not let our team down as we aim for future victories,” she added, highlighting the importance of strong team dynamics and development.
As the team sets its sights on round eight of the competition, Ranavua emphasized the significance of strengthening defensive strategies. “We expect a tough competition ahead. We have been rigorously working on our defense, and I believe we will be ready for game day,” she concluded.
The supportive environment fostered by the involvement of parents and the community has been crucial for the growth of these young athletes, showcasing how community support and nurturing talent together can lead to successful outcomes in sports. This encourages a bright future for not only the Grasshoppers but also for netball across Suva.
In light of recent performances across the league, including notable achievements by teams such as Lomaiviti and Grasshoppers Gold, there is a strong sense of optimism bubbling within the netball community, suggesting a promising outlook for the sport’s future in Fiji.
