Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that the Cabinet has authorized the issuance of a State Grant to Robert Pearson Miller through the conversion of a previously closed road, identified as Lot 1 SO 2991. This decision is a culmination of discussions dating back to the early 1970s when the land in question was acquired for the construction of the Suva-Nadi Highway.

With the completion of the highway, Rabuka noted that the original purpose for the acquisition of the Closed Old Queens Road is no longer applicable, allowing for its reversion to its former tenure for rightful usage. This decision not only facilitates better land management but also reflects the government’s commitment to honoring historical agreements while enhancing community access to land resources.

The approval of this State Grant is particularly significant as it aligns with broader governmental initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure throughout Fiji, such as the ambitious Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project. This project, which carries an investment of FJD $300 million and is funded by China’s Belt and Road Initiative, aims to upgrade transportation networks that primarily benefit rural communities.

Rabuka emphasizes the importance of developing connectivity to foster economic opportunities, reduce urban migration, and empower local communities. Initiatives like the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project and the recent land conversion approval hold promise for enhanced livelihoods and the financial well-being of rural citizens.

In summary, the decision to grant this State Grant symbolizes a strategic step toward efficient land management and improved infrastructure. The government’s continued investments in developing road networks signal a hopeful future for economic growth and community development across Fiji, enhancing opportunities for residents in rural areas while maintaining a commitment to sustainable development.
