Grant Thornton, the seventh largest accounting firm worldwide by revenue, has officially established its presence in Fiji. The new entity, GT Fiji, marks a significant development in the country’s audit, assurance, tax, and advisory services landscape, stepping in after the departure of PwC, one of the “big four” accounting firms, last month.

At the launch event held in Suva, Jerome Kado, the former senior partner of PwC Fiji and now senior partner of GT Fiji, highlighted that the roots of the firm in Fiji trace back over 60 years. Kado emphasized the evolution of the firm through various name changes, including RSK, Coopers and Lybrand, and PricewaterhouseCoopers before transitioning to Grant Thornton. He noted the firm’s significant contributions to the development of clients, professionals, and the local economy throughout its history.

Kado mentioned recent successful engagements, such as facilitating partnerships between Obayashi and Fiji Gas, which led to the establishment of a new hydrogen project in the region. Roger Flynn, the regional head of Grant Thornton international, expressed the firm’s commitment to delivering exceptional solutions and creating long-term value for clients.

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who officiated the launch, acknowledged the integral role of GT Fiji in the country’s economic landscape. He remarked that such milestones are indicative of not only the success of a single firm but also of the broader progress of the nation.

The establishment of GT Fiji signifies a hopeful opportunity for growth and innovation within the Fijian economy, providing a stable platform for businesses to flourish under reliable advisory services.

This transition represents a fresh start for accounting services in Fiji, with the potential for the local economy to see further development and collaboration in various sectors. The future looks promising as GT Fiji embarks on this new chapter, maintaining high-quality service and fostering economic growth in the region.
