Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Cabinet has approved a State Grant to Robert Pearson Miller, related to the conversion of a previously closed road known as Lot 1 SO 2991. This decision is rooted in discussions from the early 1970s when the government acquired land from the Millers to facilitate the construction of the Suva-Nadi Highway.

With the highway now fully operational, the original need for the Closed Old Queens Road is no longer relevant, enabling the land to revert to its former tenure for rightful use. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to effective land management and fulfilling historical agreements while catering to community interests.

This decision is particularly noteworthy as it aligns with larger government initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure throughout Fiji, notably the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project. With a budget of FJD $300 million, this project, funded by China’s Belt and Road Initiative, seeks to improve transportation networks that will primarily benefit rural communities, fostering local economic growth.

Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the importance of enhancing connectivity to create economic opportunities and empower local communities. The government’s ongoing investments in infrastructure signal hope for better livelihoods and increased prosperity among rural residents.

In summary, the approval of the State Grant represents a significant step toward effective land management and reinforces Fiji’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development. The developments unfolding in the region suggest a brighter economic future for the people of Fiji, reflecting a determination to enhance local communities while ensuring continuous progress.
