The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways has officially signed a second Grant Agreement with the Drainage Boards, marking a significant step in their collaborative efforts which have already yielded positive results.
Dr. Andrew Tukana, the Permanent Secretary, co-signed this agreement and encouraged the drainage boards to utilize the funds effectively for their planned projects. This support is expected to align with the government’s and ministry’s broader objectives.
Marau Vuli, the Director of Waterways, emphasized the necessity of delivering sustainable solutions and maintaining public confidence through efficient drainage systems and flood management initiatives. He noted the favorable public response, which highlights the success of their partnership in enhancing drainage systems, controlling floods, and supporting communities.
Vinod Kumar, Chairman of the Western Division Drainage Board, expressed gratitude for the grant and pointed out that with the festive season approaching, there will be increased efforts to repair and maintain flood gates and flap gates in the West.
