Daniel Kim, the president of Grace Road, is nearing his release following a ruling by the Lautoka High Court today. The court has mandated that Kim’s legal representatives engage in discussions with the Permanent Secretary for Immigration to reach an agreeable settlement for his release. This decision also extends to Dr. Sung Jin Lee, another member of Grace Road.

Justice Anare Tuilevuka noted in his ruling that Kim and Lee have consistently indicated their willingness to comply with any stipulated terms and conditions for their release. Therefore, the court has instructed that both individuals will be released following an amicable agreement reached with their counsel regarding the terms of their liberation.

The matter will be revisited in Suva on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., to assess whether the parties have successfully settled the terms. If no agreement is reached, the court will outline the conditions during the session. Additionally, a production order has been issued to ensure that Kim and Lee are present in court on the same date.

Daniel Kim has been in detention since October 5, 2023.

This ruling brings a glimmer of hope for Kim and Lee, as they have been awaiting resolution since their detention. The willingness of both sides to engage in negotiations suggests a potential pathway toward an amicable end to this situation, fostering optimism for their supporters and the Grace Road community.
