Daniel Kim, the president of Grace Road, is set to regain his freedom following a ruling from the Lautoka High Court. The court has instructed that his legal team meet with the Permanent Secretary for Immigration next week in order to negotiate a settlement regarding his release. This ruling also extends to Dr. Sung Jin Lee, another member of Grace Road.

Justice Anare Tuilevuka emphasized that both Kim and Lee, through their attorneys, have expressed a willingness to comply with any terms necessary for their release. The court has mandated that the Permanent Secretary for Immigration work towards an amicable settlement with the counsel for both individuals.

The case is scheduled to resume in Suva on December 2, 2024, to determine whether the parties have successfully agreed on the terms of release. Should a settlement not be reached, the court will proceed to establish the terms itself.

Kim has been in detention since October 5, 2023, but the recent ruling brings a semblance of hope for his and Lee’s impending release.

This development may signal a potential resolution to a prolonged situation, exemplifying the legal system’s ability to facilitate negotiations and possibly lead to a positive outcome for those involved.

Overall, this situation serves as a reminder of the importance of legal advocacy and the potential for agreements even in complex legal contexts. The scheduled follow-up hearing will be crucial in determining the next steps.
