The Ministry of Employment is set to conduct inspections across all businesses operated by Grace Road Group (GRG) as part of an ongoing inquiry into alleged labour law violations. Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh announced that the investigation will assess various potential breaches at GRG.

When questioned about the specific allegations, Mr. Singh emphasized that these details would emerge as the inquiry unfolds. He noted that, due to the number of locations associated with GRG, the investigation could take some time. Should any violations be found, the minister assured that appropriate actions would be taken in alignment with Fijian labour laws, maintaining that all companies are subject to the same regulations.

In response to the announcement, Grace Road Group expressed its confusion regarding the allegations, stating that they had not yet received any formal notification from the ministry and thus could not comment on the claims. The company highlighted its role in employment, noting that it provides over 800 jobs, prioritizing hiring young individuals and women to promote gender equality and support rural development.

Grace Road Group reiterated its commitment to abiding by all legal requirements and expressed its willingness to cooperate fully with the ministry to address any public concerns about their operations.

This diligent approach by both the ministry and GRG indicates a positive step towards ensuring compliance with labour laws and fostering a fair working environment. Such outcomes can ultimately benefit employees and enhance the company’s reputation as a responsible employer in the region.

In summary, the ongoing investigation into Grace Road Group highlights the government’s vigilance in upholding labour regulations, while the company’s commitment to local employment and community development underscores its role in driving economic growth in Fiji.
