Grace Road Group has announced that it will temporarily cease all new projects and business expansions in Fiji as it evaluates its “future direction.” In a social media statement, the company criticized recent reports by The Fiji Times, claiming it has become a target for journalists.

The reports in question included allegations made by a woman claiming she had been separated from her children and that members of Grace Road Church were forced to work under “slave-like” conditions. The group has denied these allegations, labeling them as unfounded and stating they believe the media is being used for personal agendas. They argued that the allegations lack merit and suggested that the media’s sensationalization of the situation is damaging to both their reputation and business operations.

Grace Road Group emphasized its significant contributions to the Fijian economy, stating it has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the country, pays substantial taxes, and provides nearly 900 jobs. However, they expressed that the current climate poses challenges to their growth, particularly due to ongoing legal issues and what they perceive as unjust treatment of key members.

In light of these circumstances, Grace Road Group is halting expansions to reassess their position in Fiji, conveying a sense of disappointment in the business environment for foreign investors.

The company’s decision to review its future direction could prompt an opportunity for reassessment and improvement of its operational strategies. Continuing engagement with the local community and addressing concerns transparently may help rebuild trust and confidence.

In summary, while Grace Road Group has chosen to pause its development plans due to serious allegations and a complicated business climate, this time of reflection could pave the way for a more positive and inclusive approach in the future.
