The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations recently conducted an inspection of the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu, uncovering several violations related to minimum employment standards and occupational health and safety regulations. Minister Agni Deo Singh emphasized that the findings indicated breaches of both the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.
Minister Singh confirmed that the Ministry plans to delve deeper into the matters highlighted by the inspection results. He reassured the public that Fiji’s labor laws are designed to protect all workers, both local and migrant, and stated that the Ministry is dedicated to ensuring compliance among employers.
Furthermore, Singh urged Grace Road Company to adhere to legal requirements and ensure that all workers are compensated fairly and according to their entitled wages.
Overall, while these findings underscore the need for stricter compliance with labor laws, they also present an opportunity for improvement within the company, which can lead to enhanced workplace conditions and better welfare for all employees. This proactive approach by the Ministry aims to foster a safer and more equitable work environment moving forward.
