The Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations has reported that inspections were recently conducted on the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu, focusing on minimum employment terms and conditions as well as occupational health and safety standards.
Minister Agni Deo Singh emphasized that the findings from the inspections highlighted violations of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996. He stated that the Ministry would be carrying out further investigations regarding the issues raised in the inspections.
The Minister reaffirmed that Fiji’s laws apply equally to all workers, including both local and migrant employees. He expressed the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring that all employers comply with employment law regulations. Furthermore, he urged Grace Road to adhere to legal provisions and ensure that workers receive their rightful earnings.
This situation underscores the importance of regulatory bodies in safeguarding workers’ rights and maintaining workplace safety standards. The proactive measures taken by the Ministry highlight a commitment to fair labor practices and the protection of all workers in Fiji.
In summary, the employment authorities are taking significant steps to address violations within Grace Road’s operations, ensuring a more equitable work environment for all employees. Such actions not only reinforce labor laws but also pave the way for improvements in working conditions across the region.
