A recent inspection conducted by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations uncovered violations of minimum employment terms and occupational health and safety standards at the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu. Minister Agni Deo Singh reported that the inspection results indicated non-compliance with both the Employment Relations Act of 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1996.
In response to these findings, the Ministry plans to conduct additional investigations to address the issues raised. Singh emphasized that Fiji’s laws are applicable to all workers, including both local and migrant employees, and reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all employers follow the country’s employment regulations.
The Minister urged GRC to rectify these breaches and to guarantee that all employees receive the compensation they are entitled to.
This situation presents an opportunity for GRC and similar companies to enhance their workplace practices and ensure a safe environment for all workers. By addressing these issues proactively, employers can foster a culture of compliance and respect for labor laws, ultimately leading to improved employee morale and productivity.
