The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has recently carried out an inspection of the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu, uncovering several violations related to minimum employment terms and occupational health and safety practices.
Minister Agni Deo Singh reported that the findings identified breaches of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996. In response to the inspection results, the Ministry plans to launch further investigations into the issues highlighted.
Minister Singh emphasized that Fiji’s legal framework is designed to protect all workers, including both local and migrant employees. The Ministry is dedicated to ensuring that all employers uphold the standards set by employment law.
Singh urged GRC to rectify these violations and ensure that all workers receive their fair compensation as mandated by law.
This situation underscores the importance of maintaining fair labor practices and adherence to safety regulations in the workplace. It reflects the Government’s commitment to protecting worker rights, which is a positive step towards fostering a more equitable work environment in Fiji. By working to resolve these issues, the Ministry aims to create a safer and fairer workplace for everyone.
