Praveen Bala, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, has voiced his concerns regarding the government’s inadequate response to the flooding crisis in Western Fiji. During visits to affected communities, residents expressed their disappointment over the lack of substantial government support. Bala criticized the administration for prioritizing international travel and public relations over the urgent needs of citizens dealing with the aftermath of the floods.

“The focus on overseas trips, photo ops, and grand GDP announcements is misplaced when real struggles demand our attention,” Bala commented, highlighting a disconnect between the government’s priorities and the challenges faced by the public.

Despite these hardships, he urged all Fijians to demonstrate resilience and support one another in these trying times. He also warned that more rain and potential flooding could be on the horizon, emphasizing the need for preparedness.

On behalf of the G17, Bala assured the public that the official opposition would continue to push for stronger leadership, meaningful reforms, and effective solutions to address the critical issues impacting Fiji.

In summary, Bala’s remarks reinforce a call for accountability from the government during a crucial time, while simultaneously inspiring the community to come together and remain hopeful amidst adversity. This unity and resilience will be vital as the nation navigates the ongoing challenges presented by the environment.
