The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a significant reshuffle of key leadership positions within the government, effective February 3, 2025. This change, conducted in consultation with the Prime Minister, aims to enhance the leadership capabilities within essential ministries.

Dr. Raijeli Taga, who is currently the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to become the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, presently serving as the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, will take over her position at the Office of the Prime Minister, while also assuming the role of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration with direct reporting responsibilities to the Minister of Immigration.

In addition, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who currently serves as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has expanded his scope of responsibilities by acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing, a role he has filled since January 14, 2025.

Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, noted that these leadership changes are part of a strategy to strengthen governance and ensure that key ministries are managed effectively. The reshuffle is seen as a response to efficiency needs within the public sector and reflects a commitment to optimizing workload distribution among government officials.

This initiative follows a series of similar restructuring efforts aimed at fostering local talent in leadership roles, reinforcing the importance of having skilled professionals guiding ministries. Given the challenges faced by the government, the reshuffle presents an opportunity for renewed energy, better service delivery, and enhanced responsiveness to national needs.

In summary, the strategic adjustments mark a progressive move toward improving public service effectiveness, indicating a hopeful direction for governance in Fiji. With experienced leaders now positioned to drive innovation and accountability, the government is poised to meet emerging challenges more effectively.
