The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially announced a reshuffle involving three Permanent Secretaries, a move that is set to take effect on February 3, 2025. This change comes after discussions with the Prime Minister and aims to enhance leadership within vital government ministries.

Dr. Raijeli Taga, who has previously served as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, currently the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, will take her place at the Office of the Prime Minister and will additionally oversee the responsibilities of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration.

Furthermore, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who is presently the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has been serving in an expanded capacity as Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.

Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, emphasized that these adjustments are part of a broader strategy by the government to strengthen and streamline leadership across key ministries. This is consistent with past initiatives that focus on optimizing performance and governance within the public sector. Recent reappointments of Permanent Secretaries, including Dr. Taga’s prior role in the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and others, underline the government’s commitment to enhancing local talent and fostering effective leadership.

This reshuffle holds promise for improved administrative efficiency and responsiveness to the needs of the public service, reflecting a dedicated effort to address any discrepancies in workload distribution among government officials. Overall, such strategic changes are expected to contribute positively to the governance landscape and enhance service delivery to the citizens.

In summary, the ongoing reshuffling within the Fijian government illustrates an adaptive approach to leadership that aims to optimize functionality across ministries and improve public service outcomes.
