All non-essential government services will be temporarily suspended on December 27, December 30, and December 31, 2024, as part of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Service Sitiveni Rabuka announced that essential services will continue to operate with adjusted staffing to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
During this period, there will be a significant reduction in staff, but both scheduled and essential services will carry on. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this break, highlighting it as a valuable opportunity for staff to enjoy quality time with family and loved ones. He urged Permanent Secretaries to encourage their teams to make use of their leave during the closure.
Rabuka mentioned that it is up to the Permanent Secretaries to decide if minimal staffing is necessary to maintain certain services during the holiday period. In closing, he expressed gratitude for the hard work of civil servants throughout the year and wished everyone a peaceful, joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
This announcement reflects the government’s commitment to the well-being of its employees while ensuring that vital services remain available. The holiday break is a chance for government workers to recharge and reconnect with their families, reinforcing the importance of work-life balance. As civil servants take this time for rest and celebration, it also offers a moment of reflection on the collaborative efforts made throughout the year for the betterment of the nation.
