The government will temporarily close all non-essential services on December 27, December 30, and December 31, 2024, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also serves as the Minister for Civil Service, confirmed that essential services will remain operational during this period, with staff arrangements in place to maintain necessary service levels.
While staffing will decrease significantly, Prime Minister Rabuka assured that both scheduled and critical services would not be interrupted. This holiday break offers an opportunity for government employees to enjoy quality time with their family and friends. He urged Permanent Secretaries to promote taking leave during these closures.
Rabuka emphasized that the discretion to deploy essential personnel lies with the Permanent Secretaries, allowing them to assess the need for minimal staffing to ensure service continuity during this festive season.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to civil servants for their contributions to the nation this year and wished them and their families a joyful holiday season and a successful year ahead.
This closure acknowledges the hard work of civil servants while providing them a much-deserved break. By ensuring that essential services remain available, the government maintains its commitment to the public even during holiday periods. Overall, this approach not only values staff welfare but also underlines the importance of service continuity.
