All non-essential government services will temporarily suspend operations on December 27, 30, and 31, 2024, in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Service, Sitiveni Rabuka, emphasized that essential services will continue to operate with adequate staffing to maintain essential service delivery during this time.
Rabuka noted that there will be a significant reduction in staffing levels during the holiday period, but scheduled and essential services will remain functional. This break is also seen as a valuable opportunity for government employees to spend quality time with their families and loved ones.
Additionally, the Prime Minister urged Permanent Secretaries to recommend that staff take advantage of their leave during this closure. Permanent Secretaries have the discretion to decide on the necessity of maintaining minimal staffing to ensure the delivery of specific services.
In his message, Rabuka expressed gratitude for the contributions of civil servants towards nation-building throughout the year, wishing them and their families a peaceful and joyous Christmas, along with a prosperous New Year.
This initiative reflects a thoughtful approach to work-life balance, recognizing the importance of family time during the festive season while ensuring that essential services are still available to the public. It’s a positive reminder of the value placed on both public service and personal well-being.
