In response to the troubling reports of a sexual assault and robbery involving three Virgin Airways crew members, the Government plans to increase police presence along the Martintar strip in Nadi, where the incident reportedly took place earlier this week.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka emphasized the importance of the Martintar strip, renowned for its vibrant restaurants and bars. He expressed a commitment to enhancing safety in this popular area, stating, “We want to keep it that way to be a very popular strip.” He intends to raise the issue within the Cabinet to instate more police visibility in the region.
Confirming that the incident occurred outside a bar on the strip, Mr. Gavoka acknowledged the need for greater police presence. “If it happens outside, then we need to strengthen the police presence. It’s within our ability to do that,” he affirmed, assuring that the government is dedicated to ensuring the safety of both locals and tourists.
This proactive approach to increasing security in the area reflects the government’s responsiveness to community safety concerns and aims to restore a sense of safety and comfort for all who frequent the Martintar strip. With enhanced police visibility, residents and visitors alike can look forward to a more secure environment in this beloved location.
