The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a significant reshuffle involving three Permanent Secretaries, a strategic move aimed at enhancing leadership capabilities within essential ministries. This transition, made in coordination with the Prime Minister, will take effect on February 3, 2025.

Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently holding the position of Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will shift to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her place, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who is presently the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take over the leadership at the Office of the Prime Minister and will also serve as the Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration.

Furthermore, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who is the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has expanded his responsibilities to include acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing, a role he commenced on January 14, 2025.

Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, highlighted that these changes are part of the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthen the leadership structures within its administration, ensuring that qualified professionals are at the helm of crucial governmental functions. This reshuffling is seen as part of an effort to optimize the workload distribution among officials and improve overall governance and service delivery.

Past articles have pointed to similar initiatives aimed at bolstering leadership capability and responding to public demand for effective governance. This current reshuffle not only signals a continued focus on leveraging local talent but also reinforces a forward-looking approach that fosters innovation and responsiveness in public service.

Overall, these strategic transitions may contribute positively to Fiji’s governance landscape, positioning the government to better address upcoming challenges with renewed vigor and expertise.
