Food rations provided by the government are set to begin as early as tomorrow for individuals in evacuation centres within the Western Division. Currently, four evacuation centres are operational, providing shelter for 61 households and 234 individuals.
The approved evacuation centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These centres have been receiving generous donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. The Fiji Red Cross has also contributed dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres, enhancing the support provided to evacuees.
Authorities have issued public advisories as precautionary measures, highlighting the importance of readiness and caution. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are actively operational, with other regional EOCs closely monitoring the weather conditions.
In addition, a Flood Warning is in effect for regions susceptible to flooding near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers, while a Flood Alert has been issued for flood-prone areas adjacent to all major rivers across Fiji.
The police are on standby to assist with evacuations if necessary. The public is strongly advised to evacuate if instructed to do so, preferably during daylight hours to ensure their safety.
