Government Pledges Support for Flood-Stricken Communities

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, recently visited communities impacted by flooding from Sigatoka to Rakiraki to assess the damage and provide support to those affected by the severe weather.

During his visit, Prof Prasad was accompanied by local government officials as they toured the disaster-stricken areas, engaging with residents, community leaders, and emergency response teams to gain firsthand insight into the challenges faced by these communities.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering immediate relief and ongoing assistance, stating, “We are here to listen, support, and ensure a swift recovery.” He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, local leaders, and humanitarian organizations to effectively address the needs of the affected populations.

Prof Prasad expressed admiration for the resilience of the communities and recognized the hard work of local volunteers and relief workers. He also thanked the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) for their critical role in coordinating relief efforts and supporting all affected families during this trying period.
