Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, recently visited communities impacted by flooding from Sigatoka to Rakiraki to assess the damage caused by the recent severe weather and to provide support to those affected.
During his visit, Prof Prasad was joined by local government officials as they toured the flooded areas, engaging with residents, community leaders, and emergency response teams. He expressed the Government’s commitment to not only delivering immediate relief but also providing ongoing assistance as these communities work towards recovery.
“We are here to listen, support, and ensure a swift recovery,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, highlighting that the Government is focused on working alongside local leaders and humanitarian organizations to provide the necessary support.
In his remarks, he commended the resilience of the affected communities and acknowledged the invaluable contributions of local volunteers and relief workers. He also expressed gratitude to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) for its effective coordination of relief efforts, ensuring that all families impacted by the floods are receiving the assistance they need during this challenging period.
