Professor Biman Prasad, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, recently visited communities affected by floods in Fiji, spanning from Sigatoka to Rakiraki. His visit aimed to evaluate the damage inflicted by the severe weather and to provide necessary support to those impacted.
During his tour, which included discussions with local government officials, residents, community leaders, and emergency response teams, Prof Prasad reaffirmed the government’s commitment to immediate relief and ongoing assistance to the affected areas. “We are here to listen, support, and ensure a swift recovery,” he stated, emphasizing a collaborative approach with local leaders and humanitarian organizations to address the needs of the communities.
He commended the resilience displayed by the affected residents and the dedication of local volunteers and relief workers. Moreover, he acknowledged the vital role played by the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) in effectively coordinating relief efforts and aiding all families impacted by the floods.
