The Coalition Government is contemplating the provision of grants directly to the School Management Association of Fiji to bolster their initiatives. This announcement was made by Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, at the association’s biennial conference held in Nausori.
Professor Prasad emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with the association, stating, “I can promise you that we will seriously consider your proposal to provide grants to the school management association.” He highlighted the importance of these grants for enhancing the organization’s ability to function effectively, share expertise, and unite management committees across the nation.
Acknowledging the critical role of school management leaders, he remarked, “You are not just caretakers and administrators; all of you are leaders in your community.” He stressed that their influence extends beyond administration, significantly impacting the educational quality for children. According to Professor Prasad, collaboration between parents and the school management is essential to tackle pressing issues, including the challenges posed by drugs in schools.
He also urged school managers to take an active role in school governance and to strengthen Parent Teacher Associations, as well as enhance interactions between school management and teachers.
