The Coalition Government is contemplating the possibility of providing direct grants to the School Management Association of Fiji to bolster their initiatives. This announcement was made by Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad during the association’s biennial conference held in Nausori.

Professor Prasad emphasized the importance of collaboration and support, assuring attendees that the government would consider their proposal for grants that would enable the association to operate more effectively. He acknowledged the critical role that school managers play, stating, “You are not just caretakers and administrators; all of you are leaders in your community.”

He highlighted the significant influence school management can have on enhancing educational quality, stressing that teachers alone cannot accomplish this goal. He encouraged parents and school management to actively engage in the education process which, according to him, is integral in addressing critical issues such as drug use in schools.

Furthermore, Professor Prasad urged school managers to strengthen their involvement through active participation in school activities and enhanced collaboration with parent-teacher associations. He underscored that these efforts are vital for fostering a supportive educational environment for teachers, students, and parents.

This potential support from the government is a hopeful step toward empowering educational institutions in Fiji and fostering stronger community involvement in the educational landscape.

In summary, the Coalition Government’s consideration of grants signifies a commitment to enhancing school management operations and improving educational standards, which could lead to positive changes in student outcomes and community engagement.
