Government Inquiry Sparks Credibility Debate in Fiji

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the cabinet will be presenting a document regarding the ‘Investigation’ or ‘Commission of Inquiry’ into allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai.

In a media briefing, Rabuka stated that the document outlines the ‘Terms of Reference’ along with a set of objectives for the Commission members, which will be subject to Cabinet’s consideration. He emphasized that this matter concerns the credibility of the Government and all related institutions, which needs urgent attention.

Rabuka acknowledged that while the past cannot be changed, the Government is determined to ensure such actions do not occur again. He affirmed that anyone who has broken laws or regulations will face appropriate consequences.

Responding to concerns regarding Puleiwai’s claims of being targeted by government agents, Rabuka clarified that such actions could not have originated from his administration. He suggested that if Puleiwai feels threatened, she should report her concerns to the Police. He also stated that she would be welcomed back to Fiji.

Rabuka referenced the withdrawal of a report by ABC, highlighting questions about the credibility of Puleiwai’s claims made within that report. He reassured all Fijians of their safety.
