A Government vehicle driver was apprehended yesterday morning for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. This incident has sparked a stern reminder from the Fiji Police Force that the law will be applied uniformly, without favoritism.
Following a tip-off, officers from Nasinu Police intercepted the vehicle in Makoi. Upon testing, the driver was found to exceed the legal alcohol limit. The Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sakeo Raikaci, confirmed that the vehicle has been confiscated and the relevant Permanent Secretary of the Ministry has been notified.
A/DCP Raikaci emphasized that traffic officers will be conducting random checks on government vehicle drivers, including those from the police, to prevent misuse and unauthorized usage of government assets. He reiterated that all drivers will receive equal treatment under the law, reaffirming the principle that no one is above legal accountability.
This event serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of road safety and the integrity of public service. It highlights the commitment of the Fiji Police Force to uphold the law, ensuring a safer environment for all citizens. Moving forward, such enforcement actions could foster greater public trust in law enforcement and governance, ultimately benefiting the community as a whole.
