A driver of a government vehicle was arrested for drunk driving yesterday morning, raising important discussions about law enforcement equality. The Fiji Police Force has issued a strong statement emphasizing that there will be no leniency when it comes to upholding the law, regardless of the individual’s position.

After receiving a tip, police officers from Nasinu intercepted the government vehicle in Makoi. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol, leading to his arrest. Subsequent tests confirmed he exceeded the legal alcohol limit. Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (A/DCP) Sakeo Raikaci stated that the vehicle was confiscated and that the pertinent Permanent Secretary has been notified.

A/DCP Raikaci highlighted that traffic officers will continue to conduct random checks on government vehicle drivers, including police vehicles. This initiative aims to safeguard government assets and prevent their misuse for unauthorized purposes. The commitment to enforcing these regulations reflects a dedication to fairness and accountability, ensuring all drivers are treated equally under the law.

This incident serves as a reminder that the rule of law applies to everyone, fostering trust in the justice system. Hopefully, such measures will not only prevent future infractions but also strengthen public confidence in government operations.
