A driver of a Government vehicle was apprehended yesterday morning on charges of drunk driving, highlighting the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to enforcing the law without favoritism. The arrest took place after local police received a tip-off and intercepted the vehicle in Makoi.
Upon testing, the driver was found to exceed the legal alcohol limit and was subsequently taken into custody. Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci confirmed that the vehicle was confiscated, and the Permanent Secretary of the relevant Ministry was notified about the incident.
A/DCP Raikaci emphasized that traffic officers will conduct routine checks on Government vehicle drivers, including police vehicles, to ensure that public assets are not misused or employed for unauthorized purposes. This initiative is part of a broader effort to guarantee equal accountability for all drivers, reinforcing that the rule of law applies to everyone without exception.
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving, especially for those in positions of authority. It reflects a positive move towards accountability and adherence to the law, fostering a culture of responsibility among public servants. The community can take hope in knowing that enforcement agencies are actively working to uphold justice, ensuring the safety of all road users.
