A driver of a Government vehicle was arrested yesterday morning on charges of drunk driving, sparking a strong response from the Fiji Police Force. This incident highlights the commitment to enforcing the law without favoritism.
Following a tip, officers from Nasinu Police intercepted the Government vehicle in Makoi after noticing signs of impaired driving. Upon arrest, the driver was taken into custody and tested, revealing that he had exceeded the legal alcohol limit.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (A/DCP) Sakeo Raikaci confirmed that the vehicle was seized and that the Permanent Secretary of the relevant Ministry was notified of the incident. He underscored the importance of accountability, stating that police officers will conduct thorough checks, including snap inspections on vehicles used by government officials and law enforcement personnel, to prevent any misuse of government resources.
