Self-belief has been a pivotal factor for the Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team during their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. GHS principal Iliesa Parker shared insights about the team’s progress in an interview with SUNsports.
The team achieved a significant upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School with a score of 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff is focusing on several areas for improvement ahead of the semifinals, particularly addressing a few players who are dealing with minor injuries, with hopes they will recover in time for Saturday’s match.
He commended the team’s performance against RKS, highlighting that it marks the first time GHS has reached the Deans semifinals in any grade, thereby making history for the school. Parker also pointed out the robust support system from parents, alumni, and the school administration for the team’s success.
The principal emphasized the quality coaching the team has received, advising players to maintain discipline both academically and on the field, while staying focused during their preparations. The players are excited about the opportunity to play at the stadium for the first time on Saturday.
Parker expressed honor in facing a champion team like Marist, noting that GHS has not played against them this season. He urged all Gospel High supporters to wear the school colors of pink, white, and blue in a show of solidarity on game day. He invited fans to come out in large numbers to support the players and wished good luck to all competing schools in the semifinals.
