The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has been fueled by self-belief during their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. GHS principal Iliesa Parker shared insights in an interview with SUNsports, highlighting the team’s standout performance in the quarterfinals, where they achieved a surprising 12-7 victory against the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School.
Parker mentioned that the coaching staff has been focusing on several areas for improvement as they prepare for the semi-finals. One concern is the several players dealing with minor injuries, and there are hopes that they will recover in time for the upcoming match. He praised the players for their impressive display against RKS, noting that this marks the first occasion GHS will compete in the Deans semi-finals across any grade, making it a historic achievement for the school.
The principal emphasized the robust support system surrounding the team from parents, alumni, and school management. He expressed gratitude for having a talented coaching staff guiding the players, who have been encouraged to maintain discipline both in school and during training sessions. The players are excited to play at the stadium for the first time on Saturday.
GHS is set to face Marist, a champions side they have not encountered this season. Parker expressed the honor of playing against a strong team like Marist, who are currently the defending champions. He called on all GHS rugby fans to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue and come out in support. He also extended his well wishes to other schools competing in the semi-finals.
