Gospel High School’s Rugby Dream: An Unforgettable Semi-Final Showdown Awaits!

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team is fueled by self-belief as they progress in their Vodafone Deans Trophy campaign, according to principal Iliesa Parker, who spoke with SUNsports.

GHS made headlines by upsetting the favorites, Ratu Kadavulevu School, with a surprising 12-7 victory in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted, “Our coaches have been working on a few areas of improvement ahead of the semi-finals.” He expressed concern over some players dealing with minor injuries but remains hopeful for their recovery by Saturday.

He commended the team’s performance against RKS, celebrating their historic achievement as this marks the first time GHS has reached the Deans semi-finals in any grade. Parker highlighted the robust support system from parents, alumni, and school management, which has contributed to the team’s success.

The principal also acknowledged the effective coaching staff guiding the players. He emphasized the importance of discipline both in school and during training sessions, urging players to maintain focus in preparation for the game.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s match, Parker expressed excitement about the team’s opportunity to compete against the champion side, Marist, whom they have not faced this season. He remarked, “We are really honored to play a champion team like Marist, who are also the defending champions.”

Parker encouraged all Gospel High supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue to show their support. He invited fans to attend in large numbers and extended well wishes to the other schools competing in the semi-finals.
