Gospel High School’s Historic Rugby Journey: Can They Keep the Momentum Going?

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has been fueled by self-belief during their campaign in the Vodafone Deans Trophy. GHS principal Iliesa Parker shared insights about the team’s journey in an interview with SUNsports.

Last Saturday, GHS achieved a major upset by defeating Ratu Kadavulevu School, a favorite, with a score of 12-7 in the quarterfinals. Parker acknowledged the team’s remarkable performance and noted that this is the first time GHS has advanced to the Deans semi-final competition in any grade, marking a historic moment for the school.

The coaching staff has been focusing on making improvements in preparation for the semi-finals, with some players dealing with minor injuries that they hope will heal by Saturday. Parker expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and highlighted the strong support from parents, alumni, and the school administration.

He emphasized the importance of discipline both in school and on the field, urging players to maintain focus during their training. The players are excited about the opportunity to compete at the stadium for the first time and face a championship team like Marist, whom they have not played against this season.

Parker extended an invitation to all GHS supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue on Saturday to show their support for the team. He also wished good luck to the other schools competing in the semi-finals.
