Self-belief has propelled the Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team in their Vodafone Deans Trophy campaign. This sentiment was echoed by GHS principal Iliesa Parker during an interview with SUNsports.
GHS recorded a significant upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff has been addressing areas needing improvement as the team prepares for the semi-finals. He expressed concern over some players dealing with minor injuries, hoping they would recover in time.
Parker praised the remarkable performance of the players in their victory over RKS, highlighting that this marks the first time GHS has reached the Deans semi-final in any grade, making history for the school. He emphasized the strong support system from parents, alumni, and school management.
The principal also indicated the importance of discipline, urging players to maintain focus both in school and during training. The players are looking forward to playing in the stadium for the first time on Saturday against a champion team like Marist, which they have not faced this season.
“We are truly honored to compete against Marist, the defending champions,” Parker stated. He encouraged all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue on Saturday and invited fans to show their support for the team. He also extended well wishes to the other schools participating in the semi-finals.
