Gospel High School’s under-16 rugby side is set to make history again as they chase a place in the Vodafone Deans Championship final, taking on Marist Brothers High School in the semi-finals tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
The team is the same that made waves last year in the under-15 grade, becoming the first Gospel side to reach the semi-finals in any Deans Trophy division. Their run ended at the hands of Marist, and now they are determined to go one step further this time around.
Team manager Bulewa Tamanisau said the coaches have carefully reviewed the last game to pinpoint weaknesses and will focus on addressing them this week to sharpen the team’s performance. “The coaches have looked at our weaknesses from our last game, and from there, we’ll work on our weaknesses and improve for this week’s game,” she said.
Tamanisau also spoke about the respect the Gospel team holds for Marist, noting this will be their second meeting this season. “This is the second time we are meeting them. We have so much respect for this team, and like any other school, we’ll do our best come the semi-finals,” she added.
Support from the Gospel High School community has been overwhelming, and she called for continued backing as the team prepares for the big match. The semi-final is scheduled for 11:20 am tomorrow.
